The West. The Best of the West. The Quest of the West.
I’ve lived in the West(ern) part of the world for all of my life. I was born here. I was raised here. I’ve grown up here. I even went to a University called Western.
Throughout the years, especially more recently, I’ve started to notice something and perhaps you’ve noticed the same thing to: The US vs. Them Mentality.
Teachers vs. Parents
Doctors vs. Patients
Parents vs. Children
Baby Boomers vs Generation X/Y
Companies vs. Consumers
Government vs. [insert teachers, social care workers, and many more]
It’s sad really. Here in the Western world, we have an abundance of resources, talents, and more, yet we have become notorious for our greed, selfish behaviour, and ‘all about me’ attitude. This is not to say that it’s all doom and gloom. No, there are A LOT of people and organizations who are transforming the landscape of this land (here are just a few examples). There are people and organizations who are doing everything they can to make a positive difference in the lives of others (like these fine folks).
Do Gooders vs. Those Who Could Care Less
Dreammakers vs. Dreambreakers
Mother Teresa who was notorious for her work in the slums of Calcutta and serving the poorest of the poor was not shy when it came to her observations of the west.
“The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty — it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.”
― Mother Teresa, A Simple Path: Mother Teresa
The Quest of the West:
To move from WEST= WILL Everyone Stand Together to WHERE Everyone Stands Together…for the good of humanity.
The question is, are you in or ARE YOU IN?
