We, in North America, live in a society that demands things get done faster, cheaper, & better and everyone wants it NOW…or yesterday.
No matter what industry you are in, I guarantee you, that you need the help of others to a) do your job, b) have a job, c) make a living. Since this is the case, why do so many out there act and behave like they are the only person in this world that matters.
Some common behaviours and/or attitudes:
The INCONSIDERATE: I can wait till the last minute to get something to you and you will stay late and finish it.
The ONE-SIDER: I won’t give you what you need but you best be sure you give me what I need, when I need it.
The ENTITLED ONE: I don’t need you but you need me.
The ENTITLED INCONSIDERATE: I need your help but I’m going to give you no advance warning. Actually I’m not even going to tell you, you should already know I need your help.
Over the past couple of weeks, several of these scenarios have been brought to my attention and I’m asking all of you two questions of my own:
1. Why the hell are we treating eachother so poorly
2. Why is this win-lose “norm” okay?
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to wake-up from a rather crappy sleep and acknowledge that our current “norm” or behaviour is NOT working. It’s leaving more and more people frustrated, annoyed, and feeling like they do not matter. Is this the type of society we want to live in?
I challenge and invite all of you to join me for a moment and consider: just because this is the “way” it is, it doesn’t have to be this way. You and I have the power to change it by taking responsibility for our own behaviour. The reality is, if you want to live an amazing life, commit to being an amazing person. If you want to live in a happy world, commit to being a happy person. If you want to be respected, commit to respecting others. If you don’t want others to waste your time, don’t waste the time of others.
The Pendulum of Life states: to set yourself up to receive the very best that life has to offer, be willing to give your best each and every day.
It’s time to nip this “win-lose” behaviour/mentality in the butt and return to the fundamentals that connect us all: respect, dignity, acknowledgement, appreciation, love. I know you have it in you.
Our world becomes more amazing and less frustrating one person, one commitment at a time.
Let it begin with you and I.
