Celebrating Rockstars

A Rockstar in my eyes is a person who lives a great life and makes things happen no matter what. As such, I thought it would be only fitting that some of my posts are dedicated to honoring the Rock Stars in our lives.

Many people often wonder “how are you so happy?” The answer, I am extremely blessed to know some incredible people. The lives of others have shaped my view of life and have been great sources of inspiration to my every being. I think a big privilege in life is having the opportunity to honor the people who have touched and inspired you.

Today, I’d like to share with you the life of someone in particular who has been one of the GREATEST influences in my life. It is my hope that in reading the lives of these special Rock Stars, you will come to know and acknowledge the Rock Stars in your life.

“The Ultimate Rubberband”

An angel on earth for 71 years, she is now an angel in heaven where she belongs. My Kooma (aunt) taught us the gift of human resiliency. With a mentality of a child, breast cancer, loss of sight and the majority of her hearing, she gave us the gift of humanity.

She taught us you don’t have to be educated to be a great teacher; you don’t have to have sight to have vision; you don’t have to have a lot materialistically to give a lot; you don’t have to be a millionaire to leave a legacy. Her life was a living example of simplicity. She broke down the barriers we place in front ourselves to reveal the true essence of being: LOVE. We all long for it and have an unbelievable capacity to give it yet what separates us from it is fear. When we can let go and surrender, we don’t lose love-we just receive more. And NO ONE can ever take that away.

A woman who collected rubberbands until the moment she took her last breath, She was the ultimate rubberband-flexible, simple, versatile, and binding. Her love and her life held us together. From the outside looking in, it appeared that she was the lucky one to have us, when in reality; WE were the lucky ones to have her.

“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.”
-Mother Theresa
