On Tuesday night, I had the opportunity to attend an event hosted by Schools Without Borders (www.swb.ca).
Our mission is to create meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom walls.
Our vision is to improve our quality of life through experiences that reinforce and build linkages between personal growth, community health and global sustainability.
Our philosophy is to continually harness the collective wisdom of our world so that young leaders can bring global expertise and innovation back to their communities, locally and globally.
It was a night filled with celebration, the pursuit of making a positive difference, and the belief that meaningful learning leads to a greater quality of life “rooted locally, connected globally”. A year ago, they began a program where they invited professional photographers to teach their craft to a group of young aspiring individuals. A year later, these talented individuals are using their new found passion to light up the world and capture the magic of the moment.
I had the privilege of meeting one gentleman in particular who was beaming from ear to ear all night. Wrapped around his neck was his camera and his task: capture the moments. Nabil shares his beautiful story on his website www.nabilshash.com. He is an example of what can happen when you believe in yourself and the power you have to transform your life and the lives of others.
