PENELOPE.
How would you pronounce this? I ask this because last week our family welcomed two darling little twin girls to our family: Baby Amelia and Baby Penelope. Right after they were born, I called my parents to wish them congrats on the arrival of their new granddaughters. At the same time, I was curious as to how they would pronounce these names (Penelope in particular). They had no problem with Amelia however when it came time to say the other name, it turned out to be a bit of a challenge.
When I asked my mum what her new granddaughters names were, she replied: “Amelia and Pen-e-lope.” I couldn’t help but laugh. To one who has never heard this name before, Pen-e-lope would certainly be a great guess. I gently corrected her and said, “It’s pronounced Pen-elo-pee.” She tried again “Pen-lo-pee.” To which I replied, “Pen-elo-pee.” It’s been a week since the twins were born and I am happy to say that both my parents are now on the “Pen-elo-pee” bandwagon.
This got me thinking. How many times in life do things appear a certain way when in reality they are much different?
Knowledge sees things just as they are/appear to be while wisdom allows us to see them for what they truly are/can be.
Knowledge sees Pen-e-lope, wisdom sees Pen-elo-pee.
Knowledge sees obstacle, wisdom sees opportunity.
This brings me to the title of this blog post, which was inspired by the famous comic series “Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye.” I believe that each one of us is a transformer in some way. We each have an innate power that has the ability to change lives and impact our world for the better or leave others and our world a little more bitter. And just like the blog title, there is more to you and I than our job titles, bank accounts, physical appearance, and so forth. The question is, what type of transformer will you choose to be? How will you choose to see yourself, others and our world? And will you rely on knowledge or will you rely on wisdom to guide you through life?
Penelope. She is only a week old and already she is teaching us so much.
