It’s 8:30pm on Monday and what a Monday it has been.
Here’s a glimpse into Life from The Playground Project
Occupation: Personal Shopper & Sous-Chef
Client: A female executive who found herself working consecutive late nights leading to non-existent breakfast, lunches on the go, and take-out/order-in dinners. In addition, these late nights left her feeling exhausted and in no mood to work-out. Consequently, she gained several pounds (I will not mention the exact amount but let’s just say it was in the double digits) and not impressed with herself. Upon learning I was embarking on The Playground Project and having previous knowledge of my culinary love/skills, she asked if I would be interested in helping her get back on track by becoming her personal shopper/sous-chef.
The Role: After getting a better understanding of what this client’s current eating habits were and her challenges, we opted to “clean-up” her act by getting her on the Eat-Clean diet by Tosca Reno. For those who have never heard of it, Clean-Eating is all about eliminating processed food and eating food as close to its natural state. Basically lots of veggies, lean protein, and whole grains. My role was/is to fill her fridge with nutrient-rich food while keeping her bill under budget. The incentive: whatever I save, I get to keep:). In addition to purchasing her groceries, I wash and prep them into containers such that they are ready to be assembled into a salad, tossed into a stir-fry, or roasted for some extra flavour.
Current standings: after four weeks of clean-eating and attending spin-class multiple times a week, the client has successfully lost 8.5 lbs!
Food for Thought: there are somethings in life that we don’t like to do (for this client, it was grocery shopping and prepping) and yet amazingly there are people out there who enjoy doing it. The trick is to partner up with someone who likes doing what you don’t enjoying doing (and vice versa) and watch the magic happen! You’re less stressed about doing something you hate and in return you give someone an opportunity to do what he/she loves. Being a personal shopper and sous-chef is less about staying under budget and prepping ingredients; it’s about taking care of others and helping them to be their best.
I am thoroughly enjoying my time being a Personal Shopper & Sous-Chef as I get to do something I enjoy and help my client be her best self. It’s a win-win-win. I like those odds!

OMG! That’s exactly what I dislike doing too especially during the school year! I need a personal shopper!
