Beauty & Blessings: Wonder and Awe(some)

Welcome to the weekend beautiful souls!

Let’s kick it off with a little something that may make your heart melt…it sure melted mine. Thank you to my amazingingly wonderful mother-in-love Andrea for sending this to me.

This week has been pretty hectic as Drew and I finalized the details of our new car nicknamed The Red Rocket (after our favourite basketball team The Houston Rockets #clutchcity).

It was also made memorable when I took our elderly neighbour Brian to Starsky’s (a local European store, which he had never been to) after learning about his love of ham and cheese. What’s awesome about Starsky’s is that it’s like going on a mini-vacation to Europe without having to bring your passport! Anyhoo, Wednesday ended up being the only free day I could take him so we made plans to go. As we embarked on our field trip, Brian told me that it would have been Catharine’s 85th birthday (what are the chances?!). So we did what him and Cath enjoyed to do, we bought a selection of ham and cheeses and enjoyed a lovely lunch in her honour. Happy Birthday Catharine. We miss you!

What was incredibly special was seeing the twinkle in his eye as Brian spoke about his beloved Catharine (who passed away earlier this year). After 60 years and counting of marriage, they were still so in love and as this beautiful photo (that I found via Google) reminded us, “A True Love Story Never Ends.”

Speaking of love…here are some lessons on love from these very lovely elderly couples! These couples them like the two below are ADORABLE. #wisdom

I love this song and I love this group so I was so excited when I heard them sing this song…(and after this, you might just love them too!)

If you have 30 seconds, watch this

If you have 5 minutes or just want to hear more, watch this

Nella Fantasia, lyrics by Chiara Ferraù
In my fantasy I see a fair world,
Where everyone lives in peace and honesty.
I dream of a place to live that is always free,
Like a cloud that floats,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

In my fantasy I see a bright world
Where each night there is less darkness.
I dream of spirits that are always free,
Like the cloud that floats.

In my fantasy exists a warm wind,
That breathes into the city, like a friend.
I dream of souls that are always free,
Like the cloud that floats,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

And then there’s love of a child. I’m not sure who’s the MVP here: Steph Curry or his 2-year old daughter Riley.

And what about a love that goes beyond anything you can imagine?

“You don’t have to sell a good party.”-Carl Lentz, Hillsong NYC

“At the end of the day, it’s not what I say but what I do. It’s who I be.”-Brian Houston

And what about living a life you love?

And here’s what I really want you to know — you have got everything you need to do this. You’ve got it in you. Because even if you’re nervous or unsure about what path to take in the years ahead, I want you to realize that you’ve got everything you need right now to succeed. You’ve got it.
You’ve got the knowledge and the skills honed here on this hallowed campus. You’ve got families up in the stands who will support you every step of the way. And most of all, you’ve got yourselves — and all of the heart, and grit, and smarts that got you to this day.

And if you rise above the noise and the pressures that surround you, if you stay true to who you are and where you come from, if you have faith in God’s plan for you, then you will keep fulfilling your duty to people all across this country. And as the years pass, you’ll feel the same freedom that Charles DeBow did when he was taking off in that airplane. You will feel the bumps smooth off. You’ll take part in that “never-failing miracle” of progress. And you’ll be flying through the air, out of this world — free.”-Michelle Obama, Commencement Speech at Tuskegee University, Alabama

…persevere, workhard, add bravery. But what about surrendering?

“To risk is to willingly place your life in the hand of an unseen God and an unknown future, then to watch Him come through. He starts to get real when you live like that.”-Professor of Jennie Allen, Excerpt from “Anything” by Jennie Allen, founder of IF:Gathering #anythingproject
